Picasa 3.5 With Name Tags

Google releases  its new version of its photo editing software called Picasa. Picasa is mind blowing software for photo editing and also for view photo in your computer as image viewer. While you are watching pics through picasa its give you the experience of live showing. This new version of  Picasa is one step ahead from the older one it gives you the ability to add name tags to your photos, using the same facial recognition technology.

It will help you in such a way Picasa identifies similar faces and puts these into an "Unnamed People" album. From there, you can easily add a name tag by clicking "Add a name" and typing the person's name. After you've added name tags to some photos, you can use your tags to do creative things, like quickly find all the photos with the same two people in them, make a face collage with just one click or upload and share people albums with friends.

In addition to name tags, Picasa 3.5 has integrated Google Maps, so you can easily geotag your photos or view the locations of already-tagged photos on a map. And using our totally redesigned import process, you can now import photos from your camera and upload the photos to Picasa Web Albums in one easy step.

Microsoft want to release free antivirus soon

Microsoft plans to release the final version of its free antivirus software soon, according to a note sent to testers late Sunday.

Microsoft first announced its plan for product, then code-named Morro, last November, at the same time the company said it was scrapping its paid Windows Live OneCare product.
Public beta testing of Security Essentials started in June, with Microsoft reaching its goalof 75,000 testers just one day after it issued a call for them.
On a personal note, I've been using the product on several machines since June, and I like the way--unlike other antivirus programs--it doesn't make a spectacle of itself, just quietly doing its thing. I often forget it is running on a machine, yet it did save my bacon a couple weeks back when I almost caught koobface from a friend on Facebook.

Its a worm not a keygen

On a popular Bittorrent site during the last weekend there appeared a package that allegedly contains Avira AntiVir Premium and a so called keygen. A keygen is a tiny piece of software that calculates a license number for a commercial software, for free.

Now upon starting the assumed keygen, instead of providing the user with a serial number, it infects the system. It drops three files on the hard disk:
<%AllUsers Profile%>\Local Settings\Application Data\scvhost.exe
C:\Sys.exe

C:\autorun.inf

The dropped scvhost.exe also gets added to the autorun registry keys so it gets executed after every reboot. The autorun.inf and sys.exe aren’t only created on the system hard disk, but also on all removable drives. This seems to be the spreading mechanism of the worm.

If you take a closer look at the malware, one thing sure catches attention. At the end you find the strings “VaQxiNe-steam=1firefox=1cookies=1sandboxie=1zonealarm=1
wireshark=1anubis=1virtualpc=1keyscrambler=1startup=1usb=1task=1″. This hints that the Vaqxination toolkit got used. The construction kit has some features interesting for cybercriminals:

Further Features of the toolkit according to the advertisement of the Toolkit programmer:
- Vista UAC Bypass
- Run-as-admin Bypass
- Fully stealth
- “Legit” Windows Process
- Stronger output encryption
- Only 15 US-$ for the Toolkit
.
That string seems to be the configuration that the malware creator used with the Malware Construction Kit. The features seem to work as described, for example the malware is undetectable by the Anubis sandbox system:

The Vaqxination Malware Construction Toolkit currently steals passwords from Firefox and Steam and also logs all keystrokes. Those log files get sent to the email account the creator has chosen before building the malware.

Avira detects the bogus key generator as Worm/Autorun.sxa with VDF version 7.01.06.18. For malware authors, keygens are a simple way to infect user PCs for a longer time already. If an antivirus solution warns from malware within such a keygen, this is nearly always a correct detection – the probability of a false positive detection is extremely low. Also the websites where such keygens usually are offered often try to infect PCs via drive-by-downloads. So be very careful when searching for software like this!

Turn an Old Floppy Into a Password Safe

Think back. Wayyy back. Remember floppy disks? If you're like me, you've probably got a box of them in a closet, serving absolutely no practical use. (When was the last time you owned, or even used, a computer with a floppy drive?)
Over at Instructables, there's a clever, and downright amusing, tutorial on turning an old disk into a password safe.

Hacker gets offer from Microsoft

According to the media, the Austrian hacker Peter Kleissner got a offer from Microsoft. This wouldn’t be news-worthy if Kleissner hadn’t programmed and offered to sell a so called bootkit – that is a rootkit that hides within the Master Boot Record of a hard disk and gets loaded before the operating system kernel and thus can hide very well within the OS. As it gets loaded so early, a bootkit in general is also capable of bypassing even full disk encryption for example with TrueCrypt.

Hackers forces on twitter

A researcher looking into the attacks that knocked Twitter offline last week discovered another, unrelated security problem.

At least one criminal was using a Twitter account to control a network of a couple hundred infected personal computers, mostly in Brazil. Networks of infected PCs are referred to as "botnets" and are responsible for so much of the mayhem online, from identity theft to spamming to the types of attacks that crippled Twitter.

In the meantime, the advisory has instructions for a workaround, including disabling various elements of the vulnerable FTP (File Transfer Protocol) service to upload and download files.

Bhuvan gives you an easy way to experience, explore and visualize IRS images over Indian region developed by ISRO(Indian Space Research Organization) with a very important role played by National Remote Sensing Agency.
Bhuvan hopes to offer superior imagery of Indian locations specifically with spatial resolutions ranging from 10 m to 100 m. But this kind of detail isn't readily available yet. If it were, Bhuvan would then be better than the free version of Google Earth, which can display up to 200m.
